1. Use Space Heaters Safely. Electric space heaters are the most effective temporary heat source. Use models with tip‑over protection and automatic shutoff. Keep them at least 3 feet from flammable materials. Never use an oven or stovetop to heat your home—this is a fire and carbon monoxide hazard.
